Metamec’s history captured now – before it vanishes beyond detection.
This new book records the history of the company that was founded in 1947 and closed down in the 1990s. Its production was domestic clocks: mantel, wall, alarm and specials such as the Teasmade. Cases were generally very decorative and movements employed were mechanical, synchronous motor and quartz crystal, which at one stage were made on site at Dereham.

The East Anglian Section and the Electrical Horology Group of the AHS have joined forces to ensure the preservation of the only known copy of an audio-visual slide show produced by Metamec in 1978. Made as a promotional display for their sales force, it shows both the people and the manufacturing processes within the Dereham factory at a time when the company had reached its apogee with 1000 employees producing 25,000 clocks a week. It describes all aspects of manufacture, with particular reference to synchronous motor electric clocks.

The catalogue of the 'Time & Place' Exhibition at the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, 25 November 2006 – 15 April 2007.
Although the Exhibition has closed, the superbly illustrated Catalogue is still available and is now the only record of the event.
All sixty-eight exhibits lavishly illustrated in colour plus six short articles on: The Greenhills of Kent (Michael Pearson); John London of Bristol (Sir George White); John Watts of Stamford (Michael Lee); James Woolley of Codnor (Jeff Darken); Henry Hindley of York (Chris Watson); and Samuel Deacon of Barton-in-the-Beans (John Thornton).
Other contributions include an introduction by Dr Jim Bennett, Director of the Museum of the History of Science, Oxford, a bibliography of regional clock books by John Robey and Tom Spittler and a list of museums with horological content by David Thompson, Curator of Horology, British Museum.
